SHARE NOW

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon, March 7, in Sylacauga has left one juvenile dead.

Sylacauga Police Department (SPD) officers responded to reports of multiple shots in the Drew Court Housing Complex.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a male victim lying in the roadway with gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the locations before being transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy.

In an official press release, the victim was not identified due to his age. It was noted that he was a student in the Coosa County school system.

This is still an ongoing investigation with the SPD and no other information is available.

The statement from the SPD also mentioned that Sylacauga City School (SCS) system officials canceled after-school activities due to precautionary measures and no SCS students or staff were ever in any danger.

Initial reports claimed that there was a potential active shooter near school property, but this was deemed not the case.

The SPD asks anyone that has information about this tragic incident to call their tip line at (256) 249-4716 or the police department directly at (256) 267-0090.
