SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Jodi Shaw has been appointed principal of Pinecrest Elementary School, succeeding Monte Barron, as announced during the monthly meeting of the Sylacauga Board of Education.
Effective July 1, Shaw will assume her new role, while Barron will transition to Nichols-Lawson Middle School as principal.
Shaw’s extensive experience in elementary education, specifically at Pinecrest for the last decade, positions her well for this role.
Beginning her career at Pinecrest in 2014, she has demonstrated a commitment to student success and innovative teaching methods. Her tenure saw the establishment of effective school-to-home communication channels, grade-level collaboration initiatives, and the creation of a reading club that significantly improved reading proficiency levels among at-risk students.
Moreover, Shaw’s achievements as a Title 1 reading interventionist from 2020-22 and assistant principal at Pinecrest for the last two years shows her dedication to student learning and development.
Shaw is recognized as a National Board Certified Teacher since 2018. That, coupled with her deep roots in the Sylacauga community, positions her to lead Pinecrest Elementary well into the future.
Shaw holds a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Montevallo.
“Mrs. Shaw has a passion for the success of all Pinecrest students,” said Sylacauga City Schools Superintendent Dr. Michele Eller. “As a classroom teacher and Title 1 interventionist, she has invested herself into every aspect of elementary education. This commitment served her well as assistant principal of Pinecrest where she coached teachers, administered student discipline, engaged with parents, and continued to lead data discussion meetings for school and student improvement. She is a product of Sylacauga City Schools and an active member of this community. Pinecrest will be in good hands under the leadership of Jodi Shaw.”
