SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Isabel Anderson Comer Museum and Arts Center in Sylacauga is hosting a three-day celebration in honor of Jim Nabors’s birthday from Friday, June 7, to Sunday, June 9.
Nabors, a Sylacauga native that is best known for his role as Gomer Pyle, would have turned 94 this year.
The festivities begin Friday, June 7, with a tour of the Jim Nabors gallery at the Comer Museum, open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The gallery, with may items donated by Nabors himself, showcases his life and achievements.
On Saturday, June 8, the museum will hold a birthday celebration from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., featuring a cookout, music on the lawn, and trivia games.
Fans can test their knowledge against last year’s trivia champions for a chance to win prizes. Additionally, episodes of “Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.” will be played throughout the day.
The celebration concludes on Sunday, June 9, with a museum visit and a confetti release at noon, accompanied by exclamations of “Shazam!” in true Gomer Pyle fashion.
Nabors, an American actor, singer, and comedian, gained fame for his role on “The Andy Griffith Show” before starring in its spin-off, “Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.” He was also known for his baritone voice, frequently appearing on “The Carol Burnett Show” and singing “Back Home Again in Indiana” at the Indianapolis 500.
Birthday cards for Jim Nabors can be mailed to the Comer Museum with Attention Jim at PO Box 245, Sylacauga, AL 35150.
The community is encouraged to join in the celebration of Nabors’s legacy and enjoy the planned festivities.
