FAYETTEVILLE, Ala. — Fayetteville High School’s impressive senior class added another collegiate athlete to its growing list on Thursday, June 4, as Jack Canoles signed to continue his football career at Point University.
Canoles became the tenth member of Fayetteville’s 50-student graduating class to earn an athletic scholarship.
The two-way lineman spent his high school career anchoring both the offensive and defensive fronts for the Wolves. At Point, he expects to focus on the defensive side of the ball, likely lining up at defensive end.
That opportunity is a natural fit for Canoles, who enjoys the aggressive nature of the position.
“I’m super excited to go play football again and hit someone as hard as I can,” Canoles said.
The decision on where to continue his academic and athletic career came down to more than football. Canoles credited his faith with guiding the process and ultimately leading him to Point University.
“[Point] is where I feel like I need to be and where I feel like God is calling me to be,” he explained.
Canoles will reunite with a familiar face at Point. Teammate Cam Hammonds signed with the university’s football program last month, giving Fayetteville a pair of players headed to the Skyhawks.
Fayetteville coach John Limbaugh pointed to Canoles’ character as one of his defining qualities, noting that his faith is evident in the way he approaches both football and life.
“One thing I love about Jack is his faith. He really loves the Lord and it shows forth in everything he does,” Limbaugh remarked.
