SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A city-employed crossing guard was severely injured last week while managing traffic at Pinecrest Elementary School.

According to the Sylacauga Police Department, 64-year-old Ronald Dale Golden was struck at his post by a 2010 Kia Forte driven by a 22-year-old unnamed female on Feb. 20.

On the scene after the accident, Golden’s injuries were initially thought to be minor, but that was not the case.

Just after the accident Golden was taken to Coosa Valley Medical Center and later transferred to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

Today, Golden is still being cared for in UAB Hospital’s critical care unit.

No timetable for Golden’s recovery was released by the Sylacauga Police Department.
