SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Lloyd’s Restaurant, a historic dining establishment in Alabama, said goodbye to its Sylacauga location this Sunday, Oct. 29, marking the end of a seven-month trial for patrons who have savored its classic offerings at other locations for generations.
This closure comes merely two weeks after shuttering its Inverness site, contrary to initial assurances of the Sylacauga spot’s continued operation.
Owner Bogue Stevens, signaling a prospective return, disclosed plans on social media for a new Birmingham location in late 2024.
“With a heavy heart, we share the news that Lloyd’s Sylacauga will close after service on Sunday, October 29,” Stevens expressed on Lloyd’s Facebook page. The good news is, we plan to open a new location in Birmingham in late 2024!”
The restaurant, dating back to 1937, holds a place among Birmingham’s longstanding full-service dining establishments.
Lloyd’s legacy began in Chelsea and evolved under the stewardship of Eli Stevens, evolving with the changing landscape until its imminent relocation to Birmingham in 1978. Despite the forthcoming closure, the Stevens family, custodians of Lloyd’s, expressed gratitude to their loyal guests and built anticipation for the restaurant’s revival sometime next year in Birmingham.
