SYLACAUGA, Ala. – On Wednesday, Jan. 29, historian and author Mike Bunn will give a presentation at the B.B. Comer Memorial Library.

The presentation comes as part of the SouthFirst Bank Adult Lecture Series. According to former Director at B.B. Comer Memorial Library Shirley Spears, Bunn will be presenting a program at the library called “Alabama: From Territory to State.”

Spears said that the program will tell of the remarkable changes that occurred within Alabama in a relatively short period of time, as our ancestors wrote a constitution, built a capital, and petitioned for statehood. Bunn will describe in detail the transition from frontier territory to becoming a vital part of the American union that took place in less than a quarter of a century.

Bunn’s guideline for the presentation will be his own book titled “Early Alabama: An Illustrated Guide to the Formative Years, 1798–1826.” Other Books that Bunn has authored include “Well Worth Stopping to See: Antebellum Columbus, Georgia Through the Eyes of Travelers”,Civil War Eufaula; Battle for the Southern Frontier”, “The Creek War and the War of 1812” and “Images of America: The Lower Chattahoochee River.”

Refreshments will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday with the program following at noon. Participants are encouraged to bring a sandwich and enjoy drinks and desserts provided by volunteers, the library and the Hickory Street Café.
