Heritage South’s Jamie Payton recognized as premier CEO

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Heritage South Credit Union (HSCU) is a top local banking option, and one of the biggest reasons for this is Jamie Payton.

C Level Focus (CLF) recognized Jamie Payton as one of the “10 most admired CEOs of 2021.” The business-oriented publication honored Payton for her service to the financial institution.

Payton began her career at HSCU when she was 19 years old and has been with the company since. The hometown credit union started with only six staff members. After working in practically every department, Payton became the first-ever Chief Operating Officer at HSCU.

She held that role for nearly 20 years before being named CEO in 2016.

“My thoughts on success are built on a firm foundation of practice what you preach and do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” said Payton. “Leadership is a strong practice at Heritage South Credit Union. We like to lead as part of the team.”

Payton stresses that the members of her team are just as, if not more, vital to her success as a CEO than her own individual efforts. She also focuses on the clients at Heritage South being more than “just a number.”

“We are a full-service institution with all deposit and loan products with staff trained to help members to educate themselves with the needed financial knowledge to make the best financial decisions,” Payton said. “We offer a friendly and familiar face with in-house underwriting. This allows us to have relationships with the people in our communities. We strive to know our members.”

Her advice to emerging leaders is simple:

“Be true to yourself,” Payton expressed. “Do what is right, not what is easy. “There will be trials along the way as always, but your integrity will always win.”
