MONTGOMERY, Ala. – There’s a handful of new laws that went into effect in Alabama when the calendar moved to 2026.
The law created by House Bill 445 tightens rules and regulations governing the sale of hemp products at retailers such as convenience stores and vape shops.
In order to sell hemp products like gummies, drinks, and smokeable products, an application for a license from the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board is required. Failure to comply can mean facing thousands of dollars of fines, felony charges, or even business license revocation.
House Bill 126 requires firefighters and medical personnel to take regular training on how to interact with people with sensory needs or invisible disabilities.
House Bill 358 improves child care options for working parents by creating an employer tax credit, childcare provider tax credit, and non-profit childcare provider grants. The goal is to help increase the state’s workforce by improving the availability of affordable, quality childcare.
Another law going into effect this week, Senate Bill 196 or the “Move on When Ready” bill, allows high school juniors and seniors to take college classes and be credited in both high school and college.
