SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Economic impact payments are popping up from the $2.2 trillion stimulus package in bank accounts around the country, but, if you are like many across the country, you are constantly checking your funds and see no payment.
But don’t worry, the Internal Revenue Service and the US Treasury Department today launched an online tool, Get My Payment, to track your payment.
Your payment will be delivered in the same way you elected to receive your 2018 or 2019 tax returns. If you chose your tax returns to be directly deposited to your checking or savings account through your bank, it will most likely end up there. If you opted by mail, be checking your mail box.
If you need to update the way it will be delivered, you can do that through the Get My Payment tool which will show the projected date when a deposit has been scheduled, similar to the “Where’s My Refund tool” many taxpayers are already familiar with.
Those who do not file taxes can visit the non-filers online portal to update the way the stimulus payment will be received.
Many people of all ages and occupations have received their payments. A 26-year-old dental hygienist SylacaugaNews.com spoke to said she received her electronic deposit over the weekend, while a man in his mid-30s working in a local industry received his payment Tuesday night.
“Get My Payment will offer people with a quick and easy way to find the status of their payment and, where possible, provide their bank account information if we don’t already have it,” said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig. “Our IRS employees have been working non-stop on the Economic Impact Payments to help taxpayers in need. In addition to successfully generating payments to more than 80 million people, IRS teams throughout the country proudly worked long days and weekends to quickly deliver Get My Payment ahead of schedule.”
Get My Payment is updated once daily, usually overnight. The IRS urges taxpayers to only use Get My Payment once a day given the large number of people receiving Economic Impact Payments.
It is important to note you may get a message when entering the Get My Payment online portal due to the volume of users attempting to access the site simultaneously.
You can, however, take even more initiative to track your payment. If you use mobile banking, the chance is high that your bank has an online app. Turn on your deposit notifications in your app’s settings to be notified when your check hits. If you are planning to receive by mail, USPS has a user-friendly tool to help called Informed Delivery.
Informed delivery is a tool that notifies you via email what will be, or should be, delivered by USPS that day. The service is free and can be used daily.
For the amount you will be receiving, use this IRS tool.
