SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Twin sisters Josie and Sophie Harshberger, seniors at Sylacauga High School, signed softball scholarships with Talladega College on Tuesday afternoon, May 13, in a ceremony held in the school’s Media Center.
Josie, a catcher, and Sophie, a third baseman, expect to continue at their positions with the Tornadoes but said they’re open to playing wherever the team needs them. Though not always certain they’d continue as teammates, the opportunity to do so became a reality when Talladega College offered both players late in the recruiting process.
“She’s my best friend, so it means a lot to keep playing with her,” said Sophie.
The sisters considered attending Jacksonville State or the University of Alabama but decided to continue as student-athletes after receiving softball offers only from Talladega College. The campus’s small, close-knit environment — and its proximity, just 20 minutes from home — ultimately sealed the deal.
Josie plans to major in biology, while Sophie will study psychology.
They’ll have the chance to square off with fellow Sylacauga senior Natalee Deason, who signed recently with Reid State Technical College.
The twins thanked their parents multiple times for their consistent support and financial help in pursuing their softball dreams. They also gave a heartfelt shoutout to junior teammate Brooklyn Harris, thanking her for always being there and urging her to consider joining them at Talladega College in the future.
