SHARE NOW

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In anticipation of severe weather conditions, Gov. Kay Ivey has declared a State of Emergency for 46 Alabama counties including Coosa, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, and Tallapoosa and directed activation of the Alabama Emergency Operations Plan.

A significant severe weather event is expected across much of central Alabama through midnight. The greatest threat will be along and northwest of Interstate 59, where strong tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail will be possible. The overall threat gradually decreases to the southeast of there.

“Once again, Alabama finds herself facing the threat of severe weather,” said Gov. Ivey. “I urge all Alabamians to closely monitor the weather system as it continues to impact portions of our state, especially if you are in the line of the highest risk storms. We will continue following this system and stand ready to provide any assistance we are able, should the need arise.”

A Tornado Watch is in effect for Etowah, Talladega, St. Clair, Calhoun, Shelby, Cherokee, and
Jefferson counties until 5:25 p.m.

A wind advisory is in effect until 10:00 p.m. According to the National Weather Service, gusty winds at up to 40 miles per hour could blow around unsecured objects, especially in higher terrain areas. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
