TALLADEGA COUNTY, Ala. – Four individuals were arrested across Talladega County throughout seven days between late May and early June in separate investigations tied to drugs and firearms, officials said.
The arrests, led by the Talladega County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, are part of a broader push to combat crime across the region.
Deputies first arrested Cornelius Williams, 50, of Munford, during a Tuesday, May 27 traffic stop on McElderry Rd. A shotgun was visible inside his vehicle, and a search revealed a second firearm — a .22-caliber rifle — along with shotgun shells in his pockets. Due to a prior felony conviction, Williams is barred from owning firearms. He remains in jail on a $7,500 bond.
Two days later, a traffic stop on Hwy 280 led to the arrest of James Buckhannan, 42, of Sylacauga. Officers said someone in the car tossed a bag from the window, which was later recovered and found to contain more than an ounce of methamphetamine — enough for a trafficking charge. Buckhannan, a passenger, was taken into custody. He has since been released on a $5,000 bond.
Tammie Gentry, 62, also of Sylacauga, was taken into custody on Sunday, June 1. Police were called to check on her behavior near a local apartment complex. After locating and searching a damaged vehicle she had driven, officers found methamphetamine hidden in a shopping bag. Gentry had outstanding warrants and was charged with possession with intent to distribute. She remains jailed on an $11,000 bond.
The final arrest came on Tuesday, June 3, when investigators executed three search warrants at Talladega Downs Apartments. Though he doesn’t live there, Shunkevis Twyman, 43, was linked to cocaine, marijuana, MDMA, synthetic marijuana, and digital scales found in multiple units. His bond was set at $250,000 cash only.
Officials praised interagency cooperation and said more investigations are ongoing.
