MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship fused with compassion, former Auburn basketball player Gary Godfrey and ex-Alabama running back Kerry Goode, the dynamic duo behind the second annual “Kerry & Gary Challenge to Defeat ALS,” announced a pivotal press conference with Gov. Kay Ivey, set for Thursday, Nov. 16, at 9:30 a.m. at the Alabama State Capitol.

The conference will delve into the goals of Godfrey and Goode, leading up to the legendary Iron Bowl, with additional insights from Gov. Ivey and former Alabama Finance Director Kelly Butler, who retired due to ALS complications.

Gov. Ivey expressed her pride in joining the initiative, harnessing the Iron Bowl’s competitive spirit to battle ALS, a cause she deems “worth fighting for.”

Partnering with the ALS Association, this year’s challenge seeks to exceed the inaugural competition’s impact, rallying fans to raise funds for Alabama families affected by ALS. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama headlines corporate sponsors alongside Melt Atlanta, Modo Modo Agency, Redmont Vodka, Rhythm Communications, and Texas Roadhouse.

Gary Godfrey emphasized the challenge’s importance in light of the substantial out-of-pocket expenses ALS families face, aiming not only to raise funds but to secure Auburn’s victory in the Kerry & Gary Challenge. Kerry Goode, facing the loss of his voice through his battle with ALS, urged Bama Nation to amplify ALS patient voices and declared, “Let’s Roll Tide together!”

The duo, buoyed by last year’s success, has garnered support from notable figures in sports such as Charles Barkley, Cornelius Bennett, Bruce Pearl, and Nick Saban.
