TALLADEGA COUNTY, Ala. – The Fayetteville Wolves hosted Cedar Bluff last Friday night to get an early start on the 2024 football season, while the B.B. Comer Tigers invited two teams to Legion Stadium the same evening for a “Jamborthree.”
An early start wasn’t to happen in Fayetteville, though. An hour and twelve minute weather delay didn’t deter the teams or the fans.
Coach John Limbaugh’s Wolves dropped a classification this summer and will be competing at the Class 1A level, while Cedar Bluff remains a 2A squad. The Wolves wasted no time as on the second play of the game, junior running back Cam Hammonds found a seam near the right sideline and raced 68 yards for the score.
Both teams would swap a few possessions until Cedar Bluff would get on the board.
After a late third quarter Cedar Bluff score to take the lead, the Wolves JV unit scored in the last stanza to get to manage a 13-13 tie for a final.

Coach John Limbaugh praised his coaching staff for having his team prepared. He said, “Coach [Matt] Collier did a great job with our offense by not showing a great deal, and new assistant coach Bruce Cantrell brought a lot to the defensive side of the ball. All of our coaches were great as well as the players.”
He mentioned of course Cam Hammonds but also saw great play from Cole Hardy, Brenton Cantrell, Brennon Marlin, and Eli Burns.
The Wolves open up the regular season this Friday at home as they will tangle with the Tigers of Childersburg.
B.B. Comer would have more to do last Friday as they hosted both Weaver and Elmore County.
Three separate games were contested, the first between Comer and Weaver. That game ended in favor of Head Coach Adam Fossett’s squad with a score of 14-7.
After a second game between Weaver and Elmore County was played, the Comer Tigers took the field again for the third and final matchup of the night versus Class 5A Elmore County. The Tigers fell in that one to the visiting Panthers, 21-14.

Standout players at the Jamborthree included the likes of Raelon Sims, Richard Weed, Michael Kirksey, Tristan Garrett, and Max Fossett.
B.B. Comer looks to start the season off on the right foot this Friday night against Wadley.
