SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Tragedy struck in Sylacauga late last night as officers from the Sylacauga Police Department (SPD) responded to a distress call reporting a stabbing incident.

The stabbing was reported to have occurred Monday, Sept. 25, around midnight at 510 N Main Ave. Upon their arrival, SPD officers discovered 25-year-old Fredrick Norris, originally of Alexander City, lying on the front porch, gravely wounded.

Officers began administering vital first aid to Norris until the Sylacauga Ambulance Service arrived. Norris was immediately transported to the CVMC Emergency Department, but tragically, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Sylacauga officers wasted no time launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Norris’s death.

A 72-year-old suspect who resides at the scene of the incident is cooperating with authorities, as are other residents who were present during the stabbing.

Presently, no charges have been filed, with the investigation now in the hands of the District Attorney, who will bring the case before a Talladega County grand jury.

The SPD is urging anyone with information related to this incident or any other crimes to come forward and assist in the investigation.
