FarmLinks ranked No. 1 by Golfweek

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – FarmLinks at Pursell Farms has done it again. Actually, they have done it for the seventh year in a row.

Golfweek ranked FarmLinks No. 1 on its list of Best Courses You Can Play in Alabama. This is the eighth time FarmLinks has received the prestigious award published each spring.

“It is huge,” said Pursell Farms CEO David Pursell. “The biggest thing to me is our biggest competitor here is the Retirement Systems of Alabama. They have all these great golf courses around the state, and, yet, the head of the trail starts in Fayetteville, Ala., and has for eight out of the last nine years. We are very, very proud of that. Our staff does a great job. It has to do with conditions, but also the service levels that we give.”

According to its website, Golfweek’s team of course raters evaluates over 3,600 courses across the country. The raters assign scores for each course based on their criteria and average them to give overall ratings.

A final rating for each course is calculated by averaging the overall ratings. Each course is then ranked according to their ratings.

Pursell said he isn’t sure what the notoriety will bring, but it has brought opportunities in a variety of ways.

“Arguably, we have the best in the area as far as golf goes, but we have other amenities now that we have been adding,” Pursell said. “Orvis has been a big boost for us as well. It just gives people more of a reason to want to come to southwest Talladega County and spend their money.”

When asked about what is on the horizon for Pursell Farms, Pursell didn’t share specifics but did say there are exciting things coming in the future.

“That’s like asking Walt Disney what the Magic Kingdom was gonna be like,” Pursell said. “We’ve definitely got some ideas about some things. Probably don’t want to let too many cats out of the bag, but, right now, we are just trying to get better before we get bigger and to really get what we call good to legendary in our service and just the way we treat our guests, and that will absolutely create some really cool opportunities for us.”
