CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will begin road work on U.S. Highway 280 in the Childersburg area starting next Monday, Jan. 10.
From 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. every day that weather allows, road work activity will persist on Highway 280 as ALDOT makes safety and access improvements. An eastbound or westbound lane will be closed at most times.
The focus of the road work will be from mile marker 32, which is located near the intersection of US 280 and Coosa Pines Road, and mile marker 37, which is close to the turn onto Old Sylacauga Highway.
A number of changes were listed by ALDOT in a press release including adding and removing turn lanes to improve business access, extending a culvert, and adding a new u-turn.
ALDOT has suggested vehicle operators to use caution in road work areas and consider using alternate routes. Last July, the fines for construction zone traffic violations were increased.
The expected completion date set by ALDOT is Nov. 1.
