SYLACAUGA, Ala. – An estate sale of longtime friend of the B.B. Comer Memorial Library, Ms. Thelma Evans, will take place this Thursday through Saturday, May 19-21, from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. every day.
After retiring, Ms. Evans moved to Sylacauga in 2000 and soon became a well-known visitor at the library. She attended almost every Brown Bag Lecture Series speaking event where she would volunteer, greet, and even bake her caramel cake for those on hand to enjoy.
Her fondness of the library did not go unnoticed by her family. To honor her devotion to B.B. Comer Memorial, her son Charlie and his wife Hattie donated $25,000 to the library to become Fellowship members and have a section of the library named the “The Bill and Thelma Evans Marble Gallery.”
Ms. Thelma was also interested in basket weaving, and some of her handmade baskets are on display in the gallery named after her and her husband.
Ms. Evans passed away on Jan. 3, and her family believed that she, in her love for the library, would be happy with the contents of her home sold in an estate sale with all proceeds going towards the B.B. Comer Memorial Library Foundation.
In her 97 years on this Earth, Ms. Thelma was a world traveler and she collected many things, including decorated plates. An enormous collection of these, along with records, Christmas decorations, cookbooks, paintings, and much more will be available for purchase.
The price of the items and memorabilia ranges from 25 cents to $200. The library will accept payment in the forms of cash, debit cards, or checks under $25.
