Entire city without power; no timetable for return

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The entire city of Sylacauga is without power after Hurricane Zeta swept through overnight.

Millions of people across the southeastern United States are also without power.

The Sylacauga Utilities Board is working with Alabama Power, the city’s supplier of electricity, to restore the grid bringing power to SUB, so SUB can restore power to its customers.

At 11:30 this morning SUB General manager Mitch Miller told, “We were able to get a portion of our transmission system in operation and have started trying to energize the circuits off of it. It will be a slow process to get everything back online.”

“We do have crews from multiple other utilities from Albertville, Russellville, Sheffield, and Andalusia either onsite or in route to assist us with the restoration,” Miller said.

Trees are down throughout the city, and in many neighborhoods. First responders are asking people to stay indoors if possible to avoid accidents.
