SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A mayoral run-off along with two city council run-offs will transpire in September, while two incumbents and one new member were elected to the Sylacauga City Council after the votes were tallied on Tuesday night, Aug. 26.

The top two vote-getters in the mayoral election were Dr. Matt Hubbard and Bryan Taunton, meaning Sylacauga will have a new leader for the first time since 2016.

Districts 3 and 5 saw its incumbents succeed in their respective races. Nate Brewer and Laura Barlow Heath will remain on the city council.

With District 1 being the only race where the current sitting council member is not running, Greer Wright Bisignani took the majority of the vote among the five candidates to claim her seat on the council.

Two more run-offs will take place in just under a month. One for District 2 between Tiffany Nix and A.J. Stamps, the other for District 4 between Lee Perryman and Tim Vincent.

In total, 2,286 votes were cast for the position of Mayor of Sylacauga. That adds up to 26.7 percent of the 8,553 registered voters within the city. The district that accumulated the least amount of votes for its prospective city council representative was District 2, receiving just 288 votes.

The three run-off elections are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 23.
