Downtown Sylacauga to soon harmonize with StreetSounds in a wireless audio revolution

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga’s downtown will soon sound like never before with the upcoming implementation of StreetSounds, a cutting-edge wireless audio system projected to be operational along Broadway Ave. before the Christmas season.

Designed to enhance a city’s main streets, shopping centers, and historic areas, StreetSounds will provide professional-quality audio for various events with ambient background music, all without the need for disruptive wiring installations.

The brainchild of Sylacauga’s Commercial Development Authority, the idea for StreetSounds emerged over three years ago. After conducting surveys and garnering support from local downtown businesses, the project gained momentum.

“Our plans are to play accommodating music during holiday shopping periods, local events, festivals, and parades,” said Bryan Taunton, a board member of the Commercial Development Authority. “It will also serve as a buffer to mask the street noise of Broadway [Ave.], which, while serving as our primary street downtown, is a state highway and quite noisy.”

The wireless audio system will be strategically located on eight poles between 1st and 3rd St., ensuring the most optimal coverage according to Taunton.

Scheduled for completed installation by the end of October, just in time for the Christmas holiday season, the development authority has high hopes for the positive impact StreetSounds will have on the local community and economy.

For those concerned about noise levels, Taunton assured that StreetSounds’ volume will be carefully managed, only reaching designated coverage areas, making it a pleasant addition to downtown Sylacauga.

Looking ahead, the Commercial Development Authority envisions the possibility of expanding StreetSounds to Norton Ave. as well as close to City Hall.

As the longterm project nears realization, StreetSounds will bring a future symphony of positive change to Sylacauga, adding a unique touch to the city’s already vibrant character.
