SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce is hosting its second annual Scarecrow Light Pole Decorating Contest.
All local businesses, organizations, clubs, and individuals are invited to participate.
The scarecrows will be posted to light poles on Broadway Ave. and Norton Ave. in Sylacauga. Only specified light poles assigned by the Chamber of Commerce are to be used.
To apply, fill out this application and email to [email protected] or bring it to the Chamber’s office at 17 W Fort Williams St. Applications are open until Friday, Sept. 30. The entry fee is $15 and can be paid via check, cash, or credit card.
All decorations should be in place by Monday, Oct. 3 and removed by Sunday, Nov. 13.
Judging will be done two ways with two award winners. One will be a popular vote through “liking” the image of the light pole on Facebook and one by a panel of judges chosen by the Chamber.
The Chamber strongly urges participants to periodically keep maintenance on the poles. Check on them after storms and keep them maintained to ensure your pole looks its best for voting.
A pole may not be decorated higher than 9 feet. No use of glue is permitted nor can there be permanently fastening of anything to the light pole. The Chamber suggests using painters’ tape, string, zip ties, or other easily removable materials.
