SYLACAUGA, Ala. – What started as a domestic violence altercation resulted in a shooting at an apartment complex in Sylacauga on Sunday, March 24, leaving one man injured.
The Sylacauga Police Department (SPD) responded to a report of a person shot at “The Oaks Apartments” on S Broadway Ave. on Sunday. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim with a gunshot wound to the head.
According to witnesses, the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the victim, identified as 40-year-old Demetrice Montez Russell, and a family member at the residence.
Russell received immediate medical attention from the Sylacauga Ambulance Service and was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Russell’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
All parties involved are cooperating with the ongoing investigation, which will be turned over to the Talladega County District Attorney’s Office upon completion.
