ASHLAND, Ala. – A quick glance at the acres and acres of vendors and activities on Saturday, Aug. 3, showed few signs of the storm activity that cancelled the scheduled Friday evening action of the annual Clay County Yellow-Meated Watermelon Festival.

Not only did heavy storm activity cancel the Friday festival events, they left many locals without power well into the night, as crews were also out removing storm debris from local roadways. Saturday, however, went off without a hitch and without a clue as to the unfortunate evening before.

The many paths of Ashland City Park were lined with vendors, attractions, and activities. Vendors expressed pleasure over their experiences while the thousands of visitors from all across the region were all smiles. Even those of us who prefer red-meated watermelon came away happy!

You’ll want to make plans to experience next year’s event, one of the largest outdoor festivals of the year!
