HARPERSVILLE, Ala. – Returning to their home court, members of the 2011 Coosa Valley Academy varsity girls basketball team gathered at the school to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the team’s state championship. A special ceremony was held during halftime of the varsity boys game on Thursday.
In 2011, the team finished the season with a 20-2 record, outscoring opponents 1146-871. The Lady Rebels were unstoppable during the 2011 season. They were named area and regional champions just before picking up CVA’s only girls basketball state title.
“Those girls were really fun to coach,” said head coach Kimbo Rutledge. “They started off 3-2 on the year and won 17 games in a row to win the state championship ending at 20-2. They really played hard and left it out on the court.”
“They really bought in,” said assistant coach Amy Archer. “So many unsung heroes. They were down by 4 points entering the fourth quarter of the state championship game against Crenshaw Academy and won by 9 at Huntington College”
