SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Anticipation is building as the Southern Dance and Performing Arts Company (SDPAC) prepares to raise the curtain on its fourth theatrical season with auditions for the timeless comedic classic, “Harvey.”
The auditions are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 28 and 29, running from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the SDPAC studios, located at 109 N Broadway Ave. in Sylacauga.
Aspiring thespians are encouraged to sign up for their audition slots by visiting sdpac.net where an instruction packet detailing the tryout process is also available.
In their previous season, SDPAC achieved remarkable success, staging a quartet of theatrical productions and an enchanting Christmas ballet. Their efforts included a total of 16 memorable public shows and an additional 8 shows tailored for school audiences. With a collaborative ensemble of over 150 dedicated volunteers comprising cast and crew, SDPAC managed to captivate many audiences, exceeding 5,000 attendees in total over all productions.
“Harvey,” which was written by Mary Chase and premiered on Broadway in 1944, follows the story of Elwood P. Dowd, an amiable and eccentric bachelor residing in a quaint town. Unbeknownst to most, his constant companion is an invisible 6’3″ white rabbit named Harvey, perceptible only to a select few.
SDPAC’s performances of “Harvey” are slated for Oct. 19-28, with times and venues yet to be announced. J. Patrick McDonald will serve as the play’s director.
