The suspect was arrested at the credit union shortly after the incident and is in custody. However, the suspect is not charged with the robbery.
Damion Leshawn Nix, 29, from Sylacauga sits in jail while being held on a parole violation as the city of Sylacauga awaits charges to be filed by the Talladega County District Attorney’s office.
Sylacauga Police Chief Kelley Johnson said his investigators are continuing to work the case, but the ability to file charges is not in the hands of his department.
“Our officers are out there now continuing to collect evidence,” Johnson said. “The suspect is being held on unrelated charges, and I don’t know when he will be charged.”
Johnson did say there is video evidence available in the case.
