SYLACAUGA, Ala. – COVID-19 numbers are steadily increasing in the state of Alabama following the Christmas and New Year holidays.
According to the Alabama Department of Public Health’s COVID-19 risk indicator, there is a moderate amount of COVID-19 activity in Talladega County placing it in the ‘yellow’ category.
Talladega County is currently reporting 5,466 positive COVID-19 cases. A total of 713 cases have been confirmed just in the last two weeks. Talladega County has reported a total of 77 deaths due to COVID-19.
The state of Alabama alone is currently reporting 379,593 positive COVID-19 cases. A total of 50,692 cases have been confirmed in the last two weeks. Alabama has recorded 4,886 deaths due to COVID-19.
There are currently 35,430 total hospitalizations across the state.
The New Year and Christmas holiday brought many new positive COVID-19 cases, spiking the total number of hospitalizations across the state.
Alabama is under a mask ordinance until Jan. 22 to help slow the spread of the virus.
