TALLADEGA COUNTY, Ala. – Tonight the Talladega County Commission, according to its agenda, will discuss a toll bridge connecting Talladega Co. to Shelby Co.
According to the Commission’s agenda, it will consider the approval of an application from Tim. James, Inc. for license to operate a toll bridge under state code 23-1-81.
That code gives county commissions power and authority to establish and/or license the use of toll bridges if it sees it is best for the public’s interest.
The code reads, “the county commission of each county is invested with authority to purchase or establish toll bridges, free bridges, causeways, and ferries or free ferries within their respective jurisdictions as provided in this article and may levy a special tax to purchase or build the bridges and causeways when, in the opinion of the county commission, the public good requires it.”
The Commission will also vote to authorize the notice of of a public hearing regarding the matter.
Tim James Jr., grandson of former Alabama Governor Fob James, is listed on the Commission’s agenda beside this particular item.
