Council to vote on BOE appointment Tuesday night

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council will vote on who will be appointed to the schools district’s board of education Tuesday night.

Three people are being considered for the appointment; Willie Kidd, Ryan Coleman and Steve Marlowe, who currently sits on the board.  The three were interviewed by the council before its last meeting.

Here is the council’s proposed Tuesday agenda:

  • Ordinance 2229-20 authorizing the issuance of $13,240,000 principal amount of General Obligation Warrants, Series 2020, for the COS, to refund the BAB Series 2010 Warrant issued for school purposes.
  • Resolution 44-2020 to close-out TAP15 project and authorize final payment.
  • Resolution 45-2020 to close-out Sylacauga Airport Runway Project and authorize final payment, pending close-out documents.
  • Resolution 46-2020 to amend contract amount with Barge Design Solutions, Inc. for Airport Improvement Project (AIP #3-01-0068-022-2019) Rehab Runway 9-27 and Runway 9-27 Lighting System from $157,014 (as authorized by Resolution 25-2019 approved May 21, 2019) to $170,019 for additional construction administration phase services due to delay in completion of project by contractor.
  • Resolution prepared by City Attorney seeking AG’s opinion regarding clarification of eligibility requirements of firefighter critical illness and LTD benefits, if ready.
  • Approval of land use agreement with Sylacauga BOE and Sylacauga Parks/Rec for Walton Cruise field.
  • Request from Police Chief Kelley Johnson for SUB to install water meter at the Firing Range gate at no charge, and authorization to assume monthly water fees at the facility.
  • Request from Alabama Department of Revenue, Property Tax Division, to refund $376.08, paid to the City as property tax litigation on Parcel #612705213000029000 on 2-11-20.  Sale to State was cancelled.
  • Appointment to Board of Education – five-year term of Steve Marlowe expired.
  • Appointment to Zoning Board of Adjustment & Appeals – three-year term of Amelia Wilson expired January 2020, if ready.
  • Appointment to Historical Commission – three-year term of Mickey Orton expired March 2020, if ready.
  • Appointment to Historical Commission – three-year term of Gloria Owens expired March 2020, if ready.
  • Approve expenses for PD Investigator Roman Hubbard to attend Tactical Interviewing class in Anniston July 20-24, 2020.  No registration fee; expenses for meals will be incurred along with use of a city-provided vehicle.  Hubbard, Pitts, and White will carpool.  Total estimated expense for Hubbard is $125.
  • Approve expenses for PD Sgt. Kelly White to attend Tactical Interviewing class in Anniston July 20-24, 2020.  No registration fee; expenses for meals will be incurred along with use of a city-provided vehicle.  Hubbard, Pitts, and White will carpool.  Total estimated expenses for White is $125.
  • Approve expenses for PD Officer Austin Pitts to attend Tactical Interviewing class in Anniston July 20-24, 2020.  No registration fee; expenses for meals will be incurred along with use of a city-provided vehicle.  Hubbard, Pitts, and White will carpool.  Total estimated expenses for Pitts is $125.
  • Balance of Accounts Payable for May in the amount of $217,898.14
  • May payroll in the amount of $617,291.08.

The council’s work session will begin at 5:00 on Tuesday. The council meeting will follow.
