SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Coosa Valley Medical Center is expanding its efforts to support maternal and infant health through a partnership with the Alabama Department of Public Health and the Alabama Perinatal Quality Collaborative.

As part of the statewide Safe Sleep Initiative, the hospital’s Labor & Delivery team recently received infant sleep sacks and peanut balls, resources designed to enhance patient care and family education.

Sleep sacks provide a safer alternative to loose blankets by helping infants stay warm while reducing the risk of sleep-related injuries. Peanut balls, commonly used during labor, can help improve maternal comfort, support positioning, and encourage labor progression.

Hospital officials said the new resources will strengthen the care and education provided to expectant parents while promoting safer sleep practices for newborns.

Coosa Valley Medical Center expressed appreciation to the Alabama Department of Public Health and the Alabama Perinatal Quality Collaborative for their investment in the health and well-being of Alabama families.

The initiative reflects the hospital’s ongoing commitment to improving outcomes for mothers and babies and expanding Women’s Services offerings.

Hospital leaders said the additions are part of broader efforts to enhance care close to home and noted that additional updates and improvements are planned in the coming months.
