TALLADEGA COUNTY, Ala. – Alabama Childhood Food Solutions is actively searching for ways to ensure food-insecure children will be fed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
With school out, Executive Dir. of ACFS Jim Jones told SylacaugaNews.com ACFS needs $24,000 week to feed children in its five county coverage area. Coosa Pines FCU will be taking donations and matching those donations up to $5,000.
“I like to say, ‘Where there is a credit union, there are people who care’,” said Coosa Pines FCU marketing director Aimee Morris. “Coosa Pines FCU saw a need, and we knew that our staff, members, and communities would fill that need if only they knew how. “We’ll be matching donations up to a total of $5,000 to a wonderful local charity that feeds children. I can think of no better blessing than that. People can call (256) 378-5559 to learn more, but we’ll accept donations at our drive thru windows and through the night drops at each branch.”
“ACFS will be taking foods to 28 different distribution points for kids who are food insecure,” said Jones. “ACFS desires not to have any children hungry during this national emergency.”
Jones said the Sylacauga warehouse is prepared to hand out as many meals as necessary to children. Each box provided to a child will contain 14 meals and six days of nutritious foods.
