SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A contractor has died while working in the former Food World building in Sylacauga on Main Ave. Wednesday morning.
Sylacauga Police responded to a call at the city-owned building at 10:20 according to Sylacauga Police Chief Kelley Johnson.
The worker reportedly fell through the roof of the building to his death after an estimated 15-foot fall.
Sylacauga Mayor Jim Heigl said the incident was nothing more than an accident.
“This is a very unfortunate accident,” Heigl stated. “We send our condolences to the family.”
An investigation is underway according to Heigl. The name of the worker and his company have not been released at this time, but the victim is reportedly a 37-year-old male.
