CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The construction project for a new headquarters for the Childersburg Police Department and Municipal Court-Judicial Building on Hwy 280 is underway.
The property formerly housing the Childersburg Medical-Surgical offices is being renovated in a million dollar project.
For the next week or so, crews are removing interior walls to expose electrical and plumbing for replacements that will follow.
While the City of Childersburg has the cash on hand to complete the new police and court facility, they expect to learn by the first of November if they will be awarded funds through the USDA as one of three projects for which applications were submitted. If awarded, it would provide a 40-year USDA loan for the project at an outstanding one percent interest rate.
The two other projects for which the City has applied to the USDA include demolition of the current Police Department headquarters and replacing it with additional bays for the Childersburg Fire Department. That would come after the new Hwy 280 CPD headquarters is complete.
Also included was a roof replacement project for the city-owned former Limbaugh Hardware building downtown on 1st St.
