SYLACAUGA, Ala. – This weekend, the Isabel Anderson Comer Museum and Arts Center will host a cookout and supply drive to benefit the Sylacauga City School’s (SCS) Visual Arts program.
The event will help support SCS art teachers Brooke Garrett and Michelle Watson in providing diverse and engaging art experiences for their students.
Sylacauga’s Visual Arts classes play a crucial role in students’ educational growth and emotional expression. Various studies over time have highlighted art’s benefits, such as reduced stress, improved focus, and increased self-assurance.
Despite adhering to state education standards, Garrett and Watson face challenges in supplying essential materials to their approximately 1,200 students. While funded by Sylacauga City Schools, they often need additional supplies like paper, pencils, and cleaning products.
The supply drive at the Comer Museum will take place this Saturday, July 13, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public, featuring complimentary food, a raffle for local artworks, and opportunities to donate supplies or funds.
Requested items include drawing paper, copy paper, pencils, glue sticks, colored pencils, markers, baby wipes, Clorox wipes, dish soap, hand soap, paper towels, Kleenex, yarn, masking tape, and Ziplock bags.
Support local art programs at Pinecrest Elementary, Indian Valley Elementary, and Nichols-Lawson Middle by attending and contributing to this worthy cause.
