City to inherit $3 increase for citizens already possessing second garbage can

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – In February, the city signed a new garbage collection contract with GFL Environmental of Alpine, dumping the previous provider, Republic Services.

Inside of that new contract, there was no increase in citizens’ $17 monthly fee that includes pickup of curbside yard waste by the city’s street department. However, there was an increase of $3/month for every additional can for a household.

At Tuesday night’s city council meeting, the council took action to inherit the additional cost for the 175 customers that already had additional cans.

The new garbage collection schedule is still being ironed out.

GFL will begin weekly pickup on April 1, 2021, under its three-year agreement.
