SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The City of Sylacauga officially dedicated its indoor training complex at Walton Cruise Park as the Eddie Varnadore Baseball Facility, honoring former head coach Eddie Varnadore and the championship standard he established for Aggie baseball.
The ceremony was a special moment for the program, with former players, friends, and family returning to the complex to celebrate the occasion. Teammates from different eras gathered at the field that will now carry their coach’s name, reconnecting and reflecting on a defining period in Sylacauga baseball history.

Varnadore led the Aggies from 1992 to 1998, guiding the program to back-to-back state championships in 1997 and 1998, the first baseball state titles in school history. During his tenure, Sylacauga became one of the premier programs in Alabama, known for its discipline, preparation and postseason success. His teams compiled an outstanding overall record and set a benchmark that continues to shape the program today.
The newly named Eddie Varnadore Baseball Facility stands as a permanent tribute to that era. The indoor facility serves as a year-round training space for current and future Aggies, providing a place to prepare, develop and continue building on the tradition of excellence established during Varnadore’s tenure.
Following his coaching career, Varnadore went on to serve as Sylacauga’s athletic director, continuing his leadership within Aggie athletics for more than a decade.
With family, friends, administrators and former players in attendance, the dedication marked more than just the unveiling of a name. It connected past championships to the future of the program.
From this day forward, every swing taken inside the Eddie Varnadore Baseball Facility will carry a piece of Sylacauga’s championship history.
