CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The patio at the historic Butler-Harris-Rainwater House was packed as Miss Childersburg, Madilynn McMinn, lit the City’s official Christmas Tree on Tuesday night, Dec. 2.
There were horse-drawn carriage rides, train rides, Whoville in Kiwanis Park, Santa in his downtown workshop, and the streets were filled with groups supplying hot chocolate and warm cider on a chilly night, plus all sorts of cookies, smores, and even hot dogs.
The highlight of the night, however, was handing out the Ninth Annual “Heart of the City” award.
Years ago, the award was created by Council members Angie Twyman and Bill Moody. This year, it was time for the latter to receive the award.
Mayor Ken Wesson gave a passionate award address, detailing the many ways Moody has faithfully served the City, as well as his acceptance of other roles now that he is no longer on the City Council.
Congratulations, Bill Moody. This honor is well deserved!
