CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Thursday afternoon, April 27, Isaac Marbury made his college decision official by inking a letter of intent to play basketball for the Talladega College Tornadoes.
The signing took place at 4:30 p.m. at the R.S. Limbaugh Community Center, and it was an occasion of joy and relief for the Childersburg hoops standout.
Listed with a height of 6’3″, Marbury has played all over the court for the Tigers. He projects as a shooting guard at the next level for the Tornadoes, who are attempting to move up the ranks to NCAA’s Division II after competing at the NAIA level.
The Tornadoes’ men’s basketball team have made seven of the last nine NAIA Tournaments, reached the Final Four in 2015, and were the national runner-up last year in 2022.
The Tornadoes should find out their NCAA fate sometime later this summer.
For Marbury, the deciding factor in choosing Talladega College was Assistant Coach, Tee Jay Wilson. Wilson is also the Head Coach of Talladega College’s junior varsity (JV) squad.
“He’s like a second dad to me,” said Marbury. “I really love him. We’ve got a really close connection, and it feels like home.”
Marbury credited his coaches at Childersburg for helping him make a big step in his game and continue playing collegiately.
“I really didn’t see my true potential until my junior year,” Marbury noted. “After one summer of dedication every day, every morning, my game came to life. Now I’m here.”
“Here” in regards to Marbury’s abilities includes starring on a team that has fared well in the postseason the last couple of years making the final eight, and in terms of personal accomplishments, an astonishing performance in 2022 against Sylacauga where he collected a total of 30 rebounds.
Marbury took pride in another aspect of that particular outing.
“I made all of my free throws,” Marbury pointed out.
Next year, Marbury will look to make his free throws and grab as many rebounds as he can as a member of the Talladega College Tornadoes.
