CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – On Saturday, May 13, ServPro lead the way with many of Childersburg’s First Responders to have a charitable softball game at Garland Justice field, raising money for a wonderful cause.
Corporate and platinum sponsors made this effort something to be proud of. With ServPro, Toyota of Sylacauga, Vulcan Materials, Cater Up!, Renasant Bank, Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union, Ponder Plumbing, and Sleeping Giant sponsoring, along with a $5 donation at the gate by spectators pitching in, our First Responders responded well by presenting Ms. Sydney Vardaman a check for $8,000.
This money will benefit Camp Conquest which is a facility for burn victims and is associated with Children’s of Alabama.
Concessions were on sale for everyone on such a hot day, and there were inflatables for all the young kids to get a little energy out. There were also firetrucks and police vehicles there on display for all to see.
City officials also did their part by manning the gate and concession stand. The Childersburg Recreation Department worked very hard getting field conditions in order and making sure the event was entertaining and carried out in a safe manner.
Police Chief Kevin Koss and Fire Chief Shane Phillips both played in the game and both did well. The Fire and Rescue Department got the better of the Police Department in the nine inning game by winning 31-13.
However, the real winners of the game were the faculty and clients of Camp Conquest.
ServPro Marketing Director Pete Storey said, “It was a successful event with a huge crowd, business support from the community, and especially the First Responders who played and gave it their all just like they do every day.”
