CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Hurst Construction is applying finishing touches in renovating the former Childersburg Medical-Surgical Center, turning it into a new Police/Judicial Complex for the City of Childersburg.
The contractor expects to complete their work by the end of the month and turn the building over for the City to equip the Police Department and Municipal Court.
Hurst has completed interior painting and are busy completing overhead details, such as ceiling grid, lighting fixtures, air ducts, and the sprinkler system. After that, they will then add the prescribed flooring. Much of the exterior work has also been recently completed.
“We’re getting close,” said Hurst’s project manager Scott Arrington, “and we expect to be done with our part by the end of the month. We know the City has a few things on their own list – furniture, equipment, those sorts of things.”
Mayor Ken Wesson and the Childersburg City Council are working on details for the monument-style sign and flagpole for the exterior of the building.
On any given day, there were between a dozen and three dozen workers on site with specialty crews adding their work according to a scheduled plan.
“We haven’t had many issues that delayed our plan for progress, and it’s starting to look less like a construction project and more like the finished product,” Arrington said.
Arrington pointed out that his crews have enjoyed working in Childersburg, saying, “We are looking forward to doing more projects in the City if all goes well.”
The project has stayed very close to its original budget $2,342,569, paid with cash on hand from bond proceeds and other non-General Fund monies.
