CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg Tigers’ junior varsity (JV) football team captured the 2025 Small Schools County Championship on Monday night, Oct. 20. They defeated Winterboro by a score of 20-12.
In a varsity football season where it seems like the Childersburg Tigers can’t catch a break, the young players that are building a foundation for this program finally took advantage of great play and timely misfortunes from Winterboro. The Tigers took an early lead on the Bulldogs, 6-0, until late in the half when Coach Skylar Mansfield’s Bulldogs picked up a fumble and rambled 50 yards to tie the game.
However, Childersburg’s defense was salty all night and turned away the two point conversion to get to halftime, 6-6.
In the third quarter, the Tigers got great defensive play and backed Winterboro up to actually force a Bulldog fumble in the end zone in which the Tigers recovered to take the lead.
Amari Hale capped off the night with a touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to give the Tigers a 20-12 win and garner the junior varsity County Championship.
All coaches were on deck for this one. Head JV Coach Kam Mizzell lead the way along with Coach Johnson, Coach Jackson, Coach Forney, Coach Flenord, Coach Crane, Coach Donahoo, and of course, the Head Tiger Matt Zedaker. The coaches, players, and fans were so excited for these young men obtain the title trophy that was presented by Mayor Ken Wesson.
Overall, the most important thing learned is that all the hard work these coaches and young men have put in has finally paid off, giving them the confidence that they can win.
After all, these junior varsity players are seeing a lot of playing time already at the varsity level. They are laying the foundation was even better things ahead.
Congratulations on a 20-12 victory and the 2025 Small Schools County Championship.
