Childersburg softball’s Kennedy Burnette signs with Central Alabama Community College

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Kennedy Burnette, senior center fielder for the Childersburg Tigers, chose to continue her softball career with the Central Alabama Community College (CACC) Trojans at a scholarship signing on Friday afternoon, Nov. 4.

With friends, family, coaches, and teammates gathered in the Childersburg High School (CHS) library, Burnette made her decision official.

“[Signing] definitely relieves a lot of stress,” said Burnette. “I’ve been stressed about it, but I’m also super excited. I wanted to get it over with.”

Burnette’s desire to complete the recruiting process before her senior season allows the team leader to focus on the upcoming season as the Lady Tigers push for their third-straight area championship.

“I think we’re capable of anything that we put our minds to,” Burnette expressed when asked how she believes her team will fare this season. “I really hope we go to [the state playoffs] this year. It’s super exciting to think about.”

Head coach Terrie Sprayberry was overflowing with compliments for her senior center fielder and what Burnette can accomplish this year and beyond.

“She is a wonderful kid,” Sprayberry professed. “She’s very coachable and she lights up the room when she walks in. She’s a great asset in the field and at the plate. Even when her team’s backs are against the wall, she never gets discouraged and holds her head up high.”

Burnette has played all over the field throughout her softball journey, but the new CACC signee found a home in center field.

“[In center field], I’m in control of the outfield,” Burnette said about the position. “I can read the ball really well, and I’m always able to get to the ball if I need to.”

Burnette also describes herself as a “really good hitter” that swings for power most of the time due to her strength and conditioning regiment in the weight room.

Kennedy Burnette and her teammates will look to start the 2023 season strong when Childersburg hosts the B.B. Comer Tigers on Opening Night, Feb. 16, 2023, with the junior varsity game beginning at 5:00 p.m. and the varsity game to immediately follow.
