CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – While serving tenures at the Childersburg Chamber of Commerce, ServPro, and several other professions, Childersburg’s Pete Storey also worked with the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) as an official the entire time. Now, he has officially retired.
For 36 years, Storey wore the striped shirt during high school athletic competitions.
“Yes, that’s a long time to be committed to something I love, but I retired from our region’s ServPro back in May, and I figured the time was right to step away from the football field after the just-completed season, too.”
Storey explained that high school and college athletics have experienced some huge changes the past few seasons.
“I’ll have to say that had something to do with my decision. The game has changed, and my wife Crystal has taken on a new role as General Manager at Majestic Caverns. Retirement allows me to be supportive of her and her work.”
That pathway lured Storey back to high school sports in a new way which he loves.
“Majestic Caverns has partnered with the AHSAA in the Greater Birmingham region to sponsor an Athlete of the Week program, and I really enjoy being a part of honoring outstanding student athletes – football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, all the sports. The guys from the AHSAA study stats, talk with coaches, and make those decisions, and I get to make the presentations on behalf of Majestic Caverns and the AHSAA.”
In the meantime, he also gets to spend some leisure time for himself.
“I do get to play golf more these days. Other things, too. Retirement is good. Life is good. I can’t complain.”
