CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg Rescue Squad responded to calls for help from east Tennessee in the days after Hurricane Helene, helping clear roads and delivering loads of emergency supplies. Now, they’re looking to provide some holiday cheer as well.
“As we all know, Tennessee was hit very hard by the hurricane with floods and wind damage,” said Squad spokesman, Jim Dennis. “The Childersburg Rescue Squad is teaming up with other rescue squads in the southeast to create ‘Operation Christmas.’”
That’s about proving hope to people who lost everything and are starting to put all aspects of their lives back together again, one day at a time. There’s very few opportunities for them to even think that the holiday season is coming quickly.
“That’s what we want to provide, some hope for normalcy during the holidays,” said Dennis. “We will be collecting new toys for kids ages newborn to 17 until Dec. 17 at our Rescue Squad building in Childersburg. We will be supplying 3,000 children with toys to soften the tragedy they have been through and are still enduring.”
Collection dates and times will be announced on the Childersburg Rescue Squad Public Page on Facebook.
“We will start this Saturday morning, Nov. 9, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at our Squad building,” said Dennis.
He noted that they are looking for donations of new toys only and no clothes. “Let’s help these children with a little bit of Christmas Joy during these hard times. Merry Christmas to all!”
