CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Yes, you read the headline correctly. The Childersburg Rescue Squad (CRS) is, indeed, looking for a handful of volunteers to “get lost” this Saturday, Sept. 7.
The Squad will be actively certifying trained rescue dogs from across the state this Saturday in Childersburg.
CRS spokesman Jim Dennis explained, “I need five to six people to hide in the woods for the dogs to find them. Basically, you will walk into the woods about 200 yards and sit down. You will have to be in the woods an hour before the dogs start to track you so that there is not a hot scent. The dogs will track your scent and come to you and get a certification in doing so along with their handler.”
If you would like to be part of this, please send Dennis a message via the Childersburg Rescue Squad’s Facebook page, and he will get it set up.
You will have to be at the Childersburg Rescue Squad building behind the Childersburg Police Department at 7:00 a.m. so that they can get you into the woods before the dogs start.
This will also be a unique way for you to see rescue dogs at work, and make a difference doing so.
