CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Childersburg High School (CHS) named a new head football coach on Monday afternoon, Jan. 27, at the Talladega County Board of Education meeting, and it is someone that the county’s football fans are very familiar with.
Matt Zedaker is the new signal caller on the sidelines for Childersburg High School.
After Johnny Johnson stepped down from football as Childersburg’s head coach last month, the school has gone through the process of taking applications, conducting interviews, and finally naming Zedaker as Johnson’s replacement.
CHS Principal Hillary Rogers, along with her staff and a committee of concerned citizens of the program, selected a man who has head coaching experience as well as knows the people in the Coosa Valley. After all, Matt Zedaker grew up here and graduated from Sylacauga High School where he was an excellent player himself.
He spent many football seasons on the sidelines for his school under Matt Griffith where a lot of success was attained. After many years of being defensive coordinator for the Aggies, Coach Zedaker decided it was time to become a head coach and he landed at Lincoln.
Now known as “Coach Z”, the Golden Bears were guided by Zedaker for eight years, compiling a 33-51 overall record with three appearances in the postseason and two region championships.
He brings a lot of experience and knowledge to the sidelines at Childersburg, and everyone with the program is ready for the new era to begin.
In a text, Coach Zedaker told SylacaugaNews.com that he is looking forward to getting to work and is excited to be the new head football coach at Childersburg High School.
From what I know about him, his family, and his background, he will be just fine.
