CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg City Council met with Mike Brewer of the East Alabama Regional Planning Commission during the work session for their first October regular meeting.
Brewer is helping the City’s work to rebalance the five Council Wards for the first adjustment in 14 years.
“Ideally, that happens every ten years,” explained Mayor Ken Wesson, “so it’s past time to look at it again. The goal is to use ‘Census Blocks’ to come within a less than plus or minus five percent variance in the target number of 951 residents in each ward.”
The largest projected shift is expected to be movement of about 25 residences, or 90 residents from Ward B to Ward A, minor shifts between Wards D and E, with Ward C expected to remain much the same.
“We may see some minor shifts in Ward C, simply to help balance the others,” explained Brewer, who said his goal is to complete the project before the end of the calendar year, well ahead of the required six months before the next election in August 2025.
The Council opened their regular meeting with approval of Resolution 2024-20 to assess an abatement tax lien on property located at 138 River Run Rd. in the amount of $310.
The Council approved a pair of advertisements – $300 with CHS Softball and $100 with Kiwanis Childersburg – to be paid from Fund 23.
Approval was given for Sleeping Giant to install a Mitsubishi mini split unit at Rainwater Library at a cost of $4,349.58 from Fund 14.
The Council approved the Court Clerk and City Clerk to be included in a monthly phone allowance plan in the amount of $50 each.
Approval was given to pay invoices in the amount of $263,090.87.
The next regular meeting of the Childersburg Council will be held on Oct. 15 at 6:00 p.m.
