TROY, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) has successfully apprehended escaped inmate Pershon O’Neal Pettway following his escape from work release in Childersburg.
On Wednesday, Sept. 6, at approximately 3:00 pm, the ADOC’s Law Enforcement Services division received information about Pettway’s whereabouts.
Officers from the Troy Police Department swiftly initiated a traffic stop after spotting Pettway driving a stolen vehicle. A brief pursuit ensued, during which Pettway abandoned the stolen vehicle and fled into the nearby woods.
After an intense search operation, Pettway was captured at the intersection of Ray Ave. and Franklin Dr. in Troy.
He is currently in custody and will be transported to the Talladega County Jail. Additional charges may be pending, and no further details have been released at this time.
Pettway had been serving a two-year prison sentence for Receiving Stolen Property at the Childersburg Community Work Center. His escape was discovered during an institutional bed roster check in the early morning hours of Sept. 5.
